Welcome to Deer Hideout Retreat! We are located in Palmyra, Virginia on two acres of land. There is so much to do and see around here, and we hope you choose our home for your stay. We are surrounded by several vineyards, we are a 19-minute drive to Monticello, and 28 minutes away from the city center of historic Charlottesville. Our guests will be staying on the lower ground level of our home. This has its own private entrance leading to a walk-out patio area with a coffee table, love seat and two chairs. The private guest suite also includes your own bathroom with shower, a wine cooler/mini refrigerator, and a bar area complete with a small sink. We have a queen size bed. If there are more than two guests, we will put out an additional queen size bed. (When booking, please select the number of guests so we can have the bed ready). We have provided a coffee machine (with coffee), tea, utensils, cutting board, plates, bowls, mugs, and glasses. Guests will have absolute privacy during their stay. If there is anything you might need, please let us know and we will do our best to make your stay more enjoyable. We live on the top two floors of our home with our dog, two cats, and child, so you may hear some noise and a few foot steps from time to time, but we always try to keep things quiet. You may also hear an occasional bark or meow. We do not allow our pets into the guest suite. Guests will have the entire lower ground level of our home with its own private entrance. Guests will also be free to roam the property (2 acres). Our property is family-friendly, and there is a large grass area to let your children run and play. We have provided a parking space just for our guests . There will be a grassy hill that leads our guests down to the guest suite entrance. We plan on greeting each guest who stays with us and will show you down to our guest suite. We do live on the property, however we give our guests their complete privacy. We are both more than happy to help out in any way and answer any questions you might have. We have an automatic lock on the guest suite door, and the code will be given to you upon arrival. Please use this code when you are entering the door (there is no key). You will type in the four-digit code, and the door will unlock. Upon checkout, please lock the door as normal. That is all we ask you to do. You may message us to let us know that you have checked out. Pet(s) live on property - We have a dog that lives on the property. She will bark during arrivals and departures, but she is always fenced in. Potential for noise - We live on the top two floors with our dog, two cats, and child, so there may be noise at times, (mainly from the dog). You may hear an occasional bark or meow. However, we will do our best to keep it to a minimum. Surveillance or recording devices on property - There are numerous cameras on the property (outdoors only), for your safety and ours. We welcome you to make your self at home, we just have a few rules that we would appreciate if you followed them. We do not allow smoking/vaping or any type of drug use on the property. No unauthorized guests are allowed on the property. No parties or events are allowed on the property. If it is wet outside, we would kindly ask you to take off your shoes when you enter. The Pine Grove Cottage is surrounded by woods in its rural location, but is just 3 miles from the Zion Crossroad Interstate 64 exit and all the retail and restaurants at that interchange. It is 22 minutes from Monticello, and there are over a dozen wineries within a 30 minute drive. The cottage was thoroughly renovated and luxuriously furnished in mid-2020. If it looks professionally decorated, that's because it is. Everything is brand-spanking new, and beautiful. The cottage can accommodate seven people if you include the sleeper sofa in the living room. The mattresses in the bedrooms are all Temperpaedic type mattresses, very comfortable. You will love the patio with its gas grill and fire pit. Also, there is a 1/2 mile trail beside Oliver Creek - great for walking the dog or the kids.

Below the house is a fire pit surrounded by 8 Adirondack chairs as well as directly accessible walking and horse trails through bordering land which is under easement. Upstairs there are three bedrooms. The master is very spacious and bright with a queen bed and its own full bathroom and tub. The second bedroom features a queen bed and is very bright and airy surrounded by windows . The third bedroom features two twins and both of these bedrooms share a full bath which features fully tiled and glass enclosed shower. Finally, in the walk out basement there full size pull out sofa bed, gaming/poker table, TV, dart board and complete with its own full bathroom with glass enclosed tiled shower. All bathrooms are supplied with salon grade shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, towels and washcloths. On the main floor there is a TV/sitting room with large bay windows, a piano and wood burning fireplace. The kitchen is bright and large and well equipped with a large sink, dishwasher, disposal, gas range and an assortment of high quality cookware/knives. For coffee lovers there is Keurig Machine (bring your own k-cups) or a 12 cup Cuisinart percolator. Also provided are a large variety of spices and basic cooking necessities such as sugar, flour, salt, pepper, cooking oils, vinegars, etc. The kitchen has its own breakfast seating area or you can wander out the back door and relax in the screened in porch. The dining room, visible from the kitchen, comfortably seats six, although you could squeeze eight. Much of the nearby land behind the house is all under conservation easement and you may enjoy taking one of the many walking/horse trails which are quite extensive. There is a full vegetable garden and small orchard on property which I maintain. You can relax in the outdoor seating area by the fish pond to the sounds of babbling water in the background or lounge in comfortable Adirondack chairs under the tall surrounding oak trees while enjoying the fire pit. This is truly a ‘get away’ retreat and you will leave feeling relaxed and recharged! Check in time is 4pm and checkout is 12 noon, although special arrangements can be made if the schedule allows for it. Stay at La Fourche (circa 1790) a fabulously restored, historically significant, estate property located in the heart of Keswick hunt country just minutes to Charlottesville. It's a great place to enjoy a summer sunset from your own balcony, or just hang out and breathe the fresh country air after a long day of visiting local wineries. This loft studio consists of a king bed that has a nice foam topper. Enjoy a nice hot shower in the walk-in tiled shower. There also is a kitchen complete with coffee maker, stove, refrigerator/freezer. I love to decorate so I’m particularly grateful to do so in this barn studio. I want my guests to feel like they are in a home not in a hotel room. I carefully hand pick and oftentimes paint my own furniture finds. The balcony is a great place for morning coffee while breathing in the fresh air and taking in the Mountain View’s. We have a fire pit and a pool up near our main house for our guests to enjoy. I like to give my guests as much privacy as possible during their stay. But they can always access me via text as I respond quickly to ensure their needs are met.

Several of my best friends and their partners came down from New York. We'd planned to tour around the area, stopping at various vineyards and breweries, some historical sites, etc., but we never ended up leaving Ben Coolyn at all - none of us wanted to. The property is vast, private, and completely delightful - imagine having Central Park entirely to yourself. There are three ponds, a vineyard, undisturbed mountain views, formal gardens, gorgeously maintained outbuildings, and the most perfect saltwater pool. The house itself is incredible. You really can't get a feel for the scale of it until you walk in the front door. From the ballroom-sized living room, to the little library, the conservatory, and the incredible kitchen, the house is sprawling, beautifully decorated, and has many areas to enjoy. The bedrooms are enormous and very comfortable, with beautiful views from each window. On our last morning, I woke up early, got a cup of coffee, and sat on the second-story balcony to watch the sun rise. There was mist rising over the pond, and the mountains beyond were glowing pink. It was really difficult to leave. Staying at Ben Coolyn is like having a private resort to yourself. It has everything you could want or need. We all left feeling relaxed and rejuvenated, and we can't wait visit again.   California, US Reviewed: August 2, 2019   Property      Ben Coolyn was the perfect location for our Girl’s Weekend in Keswick. The experience was truly one of a kind, from the moment we turned onto the driveway. The setting is pristine: ponds, endless hills, backdrops of vineyards and mountains. The house is surrounded by beautiful gardens, perfect for having a seat on one of the benches to relax and enjoy a glass of wine. The home itself is stunning: beautiful and designed impeccably, yet also completely comfortable and functional. Our beds were cozy and it was so serene waking up to the views framed by the windows. It is as beautiful, if not more so, than the pictures, with literally everything you need. Once you arrive at Ben Coolyn, you don’t really have to have a reason to leave - the entire property made us feel like being home except much, much better. Although we all live close by, the tranquility is like being in your own little world, very far removed from the hustle and bustle. Our favorite things were strolling the property, relaxing by the pool (perfect vineyard and mountain backdrop), and exploring the gardens. We cannot wait to do it again and plan on sharing this property with anyone we know that is looking to have a totally unbelievable Charlottesville experience!   Richmond, US Reviewed: September 5, 2019   Property      Ben Coolyn captured in only a headline would be, 'Picturesque Country Manner fit for the Queen's Court!’ Truly, the house and property are serene. Our low-key weekend away with family and friends was transformed into a dream-like experience! Every day there if felt like there was a new piece of the property or portion of the house we had yet to explore! The house met out every need and the property is very kid-friendly. Our children were able to run and explore the grounds while the adults maintained peace of mind, relaxing by the pool, that they were safe. It reminded me of the type of freedom we had as kids! The fully equipped kitchen allowed for family meals in the spacious dinning room. It was the first time the kids didn’t even mention the word TV or go to grab the iPAD, which is quite a feat! We are already looking at the calendar to return next year!

This 6 bedroom, 5.5 bath historical estate is surrounded with charm and character. It is easily reached by exiting Interstate 64 onto Monticello Avenue and coming into town to Druid Avenue. Because it is an end unit the town house has lots of natural light with mountain views. The spacious layout of the main living level is perfect for entertaining large groups! Just under 2 miles to the Historic Downtown Mall and makes a great home base for doing vineyard/brewery tours. - Fresh linens and towels provided. Please book for the number of guests in your group so that we can properly set the home to accommodate everyone and note that there is a strictly enforced maximum of 12 guests per booking. - We offer a turn-key stay. The house will be stocked with everything you would need for basic cooking during the weekend (cookware, utensils, dishes), a coffee maker and coffee bar (fresh coffee, sugars, creamers), toilet paper, paper towels, toiletries and lots of other extras to make your stay more comfortable. If there's something you're specifically looking for, just ask if we have it or if we can provide it to make your stay more comfortable. The layout: While we can accommodate up to 12 guests, please read the layout details for more info on how the sleeping arrangements will work. The Entry Level has a hallway from the entrance leads back to this sunny secondary living room/sleeping area. There is a mounted Smart flatscreen TV, Queen bed, and 2 Twin beds and an optional twin cot for sleeping to sleep up to 4-5 people on this level. The Main Living Level is bright and airy; we LOVE this space! This level is a large open-concept living/dining/kitchen area. Three bar-height chairs for the bar that separates living room from kitchen, 3 counter stools at the kitchen island, and an 8-seat farmhouse dining table means you whole crew can easily sit in the same area together to eat. There is a 50" mounted Smart TV with HD cable, Netflix, and other apps. There is a half bath off the living area. The kitchen is fully stocked with dishes, utensils, glassware, cookware, coffee maker (and coffee, sugars, creamers). The Third Floor has 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. The 1st bedroom (master): King bed and and 1 twin cot remains folded in the closet with bedding on top for your use. The large walk-in closet is excellent for a large group to store bags and clothing. There is an en-suite full bathroom with walk-in shower and double vanity. There's a mounted flat screen Smart TV on the wall 2nd bedroom: Guest room with a beige tufted upholstered queen bed with Pottery Barn bedding and a closet. This room has a ceiling fan. 3rd bedroom: 2 twin beds with upholstered headboards and a closet. This room also has a ceiling fan. There is a full bathroom in the hallway next to bedrooms on the third floor and there is also a separate laundry room with a new washer/dryer. Garage parking available for guests (1 car) and 1 car can fit in the short driveway. All other cars must park in a specific lot in the community to avoid towing or taking up our neighbor’s limited spaces right by the house! We appreciate your cooperation with this.

This is a home that is affordable. It is not the Ritz, the carpet does have a couple of stains on it from the red mud in the yard and from a bottle of cleaner busting on it and the towels are mismatched and not all hotel whites. Like I said, it’s not the perfect house, but it is a very convenient location within 1 mile from the downtown mall, a five minute drive to Monticello and Carter’s Mountain winery and apple orchard, and a short 8-10 minute drive to UVA’s grounds! This home is very comfortable and it offers the feel of being able to kick your feet up to relax without worrying about putting a scratch on something. This apartment sits on the bottom floor of a large, old house that was converted to apartments somewhere around the 1930’s – 40’s. Over the course of 2018, the owners worked to renovate this home to bring it current with today’s amenities. As they truly love old buildings, this was a historic renovation and thus most of the original details were maintained and salvaged.  This apartment was inspired by the neighborhood communal well that was referred to as “the grove”, and “the club”. Using elements of the grove, the owners chose bright greens, natural elements, and spa-like bathrooms. They took it as far as adding a live moss mural that is hanging over the living room fireplace. The property is located directly behind some of the Charlottesville's best restaurants (Tavola, Mas, Local, Junction, Con Mole, Belle, Southern Crescent) and is an easy 10 minute to the Downtown Mall. This historic Belmont house was converted into apartments around the 1930's. In 2018, the house was completely renovated into unique, 1-bedroom suites with modern amenities. The design theme for this suite was inspired by the original pharmacy that was formally a staple in downtown Belmont.
